With Neighbourhood Planning Support, you’ll find everything you need to know about how to develop a neighbourhood plan or neighbourhood development order and what support is available to you. 

The Government has allocated over £23 million between 2018 and 2022 to support the development of neighbourhood plans or neighbourhood development orders.

Grant funding

If you’re working on a neighbourhood plan or neighbourhood plan or neighbourhood development order, you can apply for grant funding of up to £9,000. If you’re facing more complex issues or groups that the eligibility criteria you will be able to apply for additional grant of up to £8,000.

To qualify for this additional grant, you must be at least one of the following:

  • allocating sites for housing
  • including design codes in your plan
  • a designated business neighbourhood plan
  • a cluster of three or more parishes writing a single plan
  • a Neighbourhood Area with a population of over 25,000

You must spend your grant funding within 12 months or by the end of the financial year, whichever is earliest.

Technical support

If you’re facing complex issues such as allocating sites for development, you can apply for Technical Support where a specialist advisor will support you with specific issues or assessments.

Locality will continue to deliver the Neighbourhood Planning Support Programme over the next four years, from 2018-2022. This builds on the 2015-18 programme and any support previously received will be taken into account.
