The Prime Minister has indicated in clear terms that free movement of people will end as the UK leaves the European Union (EU). This means that employers will no longer be able to freely recruit EU nationals as they do now and a new model for migration is likely to be introduced.

EEF wants to better understand the level of manufacturing employers’ reliance on EU workers, as well as understand the impact on manufacturers of any changes to the way employers recruit EU nationals and are currently surveying members on this topic to form the basis of a report to be published in June which will outline priorities to Government on this increasingly important topic.

In addition to the survey EEF would like to invite you a private focus group to discuss your workforce and Brexit in more detail. The ensuing discussion will provide a better understanding of the value of EU nationals in meeting industry skills needs and the challenges manufacturers may face in the future. These private discussions will allow EEF to shape policy thinking and make clear recommendations to Government ahead of, and during, the EU negotiations.
