This course focuses on the ILM Level 3 Leadership and Management unit and provides candidates with the opportunity to:

  • Describe the value of formal and informal performance
  • Explain the role of the first line manager in performance management
  • Identify ways to ensure fair and objective formal assessment
  • Explain how to set SMART objectives for a team member
  • Explain how to set performance standards for a team member
  • Explain how to measure performance against agreed situations
  • Describe how to give effective feedback
  • Identify causes for failure to meet agreed performance levels
  • Describe actions to restore performance to acceptable levels

Course Content

This course provides successful candidates with two learning credits within the Qualifications Credit Framework.

This course is suitable for new and aspiring middle managers. Candidates may use this course to continue to build towards a Level 5 Award, Certificate or Diploma in Leadership and Management.
